Analysis of samples to establish the presence of nematode pests
The contract covers laboratory analysis of nematology samples for the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), Ireland’s National Plant Protection Organisation and government department responsible for agriculture, food and marine policy. The appointed laboratory will provide supplemental diagnostics for approximately 1,500 samples from soil, peat and plant material, identifying plant-parasitic and free-living nematodes, particularly EU quarantine and regulated non-quarantine species. The scope includes producing diagnostic results and reports, providing technical advice within specified turnaround times, and supporting phytosanitary controls carried out at farms, forests, nurseries, parks and other locations across Ireland. The estimated contract value is £600,000, although the contract duration is not stated in the available information. The critical qualification is that the successful laboratory must be accredited in compliance with applicable EU regulations and will be nominated as Ireland’s Official Laboratory for nematology.
